Sha’Carri Richardson has been on her A game all season. After securing a position in every USATF 100m final on July 7, the athlete bought her ticket to the World Championship by winning the 100m race at a speed of 10.82 seconds. And currently, amid the tough competition from top-tier athletes all around the world, the LSU star has been exhibiting a staunch performance on the European tracks as well.

However, despite the LSU star’s incredible comeback, Jamaican sprinter Shelly-Ann Fraser -Pryce still tops the World Ranking charts this year. The Olympic gold medalist, after making her debut in the 100-meter title in the 2023 season on 20th July, has also reached the podium every single time. Recently, a fan also posted the charts on social media, highlighting the dominance of Fraser-Pryce on the tracks.

Shelly-Ann-Fraser-Pryce tops the world ranking charts

On July 22, a track and field enthusiast posted a tweet captioned “I see many have the world ranking confused for the season top list.” This is what the world ranking says today,” emphasizing on Fraser-Pryce’s performance. On the list, the top position was still held by Jamaican athlete Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce, followed by Sha’Carri Richardson. And although Fraser-Pryce has participated in very few races, the list is curated by all the races she has participated in since the world ranking was installed. This list is always changing based on a lot of factors. Nonetheless, with over five 100-meter title championship wins and eight Olympic wins, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce is one of the most decorated athletes and truly deserves the number one spot. This year, the athlete also added a 200-meter title to her long list of achievements.

While preparing for the championship in May, Fraser-Pryce suffered a knee injury and couldn’t participate in the races. The Jamaican athlete then made her debut of the season in the 200-meter race. However, the athlete is back in her track of expertise as  Fraser-Pryce made her 100m debut in the Luzern Switzerland event on July 20th. The athlete has dominated the 100-meter race track since then, maintaining a first-place streak in every event.

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce won the 100-meter title at the World Championship event in Luzern, Switzerland, and has participated in two 100-meter races till now. In Luzern, Fraser-Pryce won her first 100-meter title of the season by covering the distance in just 10.82 seconds, trouncing Zoe Hobbs, the Kiwi sprinter, with 74 seconds. And only one day after her victory in Switzerland, the athlete won a record-breaking race at the tracks of Spain on Saturday. Fraser-Pryce finished the race in 10.83 seconds and broke the record set in 2019 of 10.92 seconds.

However, apart from who’s leading the season, both Sh’acarri Richardson and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce bring their own set of skills to the tracks and are truly one of the finest sprinters of this year’s season.
