Once again, the Jamaican Olympic champion Elaine Thompson-Herah has shut down every speculation about her fitness and form. With a spectacular victory in the Prefontaine Classic today, she has proved that form is temporary, but class is permanent. Though she was suffering from an Achilles injury when she started running on the track at Eugene today, no one doubted her even for a second.

Surely, the Jamaican has developed a hobby of finishing at the top of the podium. In Prefontaine Classic today, she overtook American track star Sha Carri Richardson and her compatriot, Shericka Jackson, to win the race with 10.79 seconds on the clock.

Elaine Thompson-Herah Dominates Despite Injury

Previously, Elaine dropped herself from Birmingham Diamond League because of the injury. However, in Eugene, Oregon, the world once again saw the champion who took home the Olympic gold in Tokyo. Though prior to the race she said, “My injury doesn’t require surgery and it’s very frustrating – some days I have to sit on the side, not able to train, and then I had a rotator, shoulder, dislocation.”

Now that she has added another victory to her name, we can absolutely call her the world 100m specialist.

Sha Carri Richardson was second

Perhaps Sha Carri would have wanted the first place. However, a second-place finish is also nothing short of redemption for the American track icon. With 10.92 seconds on the clock, she managed to score her fastest time since the Tokyo Olympic trials. Furthermore, today’s performance has landed her as the third-fastest American woman of the year benchmark as well.

Sha’Carri has faced enough hate and criticism over the last year and a half. However, with this incredible second-place finish, she finally has something to show to the haters. Now she can proudly say that this is the first of many remarkable victories to come.
