Michael Johnson has been a reliable ally to the track and field throughout his years in the industry. Apart from delivering staunch performances, he is also known for expressing new ways to popularize the industry. He never fails to appreciate a good run and athleticism, no matter which sport it is. A few days back, he had turned to the tennis arena to praise athleticism.

Johnson, a four-time Olympic gold medalist, once again took time to appreciate speed. This time it was an NFL match that he referred to. In a recent social media post, Johnson put a note of appreciation for a Michigan Wolverine player.

Michael Johnson hails Michigan player’s speed

On November 3, Johnson shared a video of the match between Michigan Wolverines and Iowa, where wide receiver Semaj Morgan of Michigan is seen running to stop the touchdown. The pace he picked to stop this TD was stunning and would sway any speed lover. A mesmerized Johnson expressed, “He knew he had the weapon (speed!) and only he could stop the touchdown”. Adding to this, he further wrote, “Great effort”. 

The Wolverines, with this effort, ruled the game and won by a whopping 26 points with the opponent team at 0 till the very end. With this win, Michigan also secured its third straight Big Ten conference title. A speed like this is usually seen in the tracks and witnessing this in a football match was outstanding. Understandably, it caught the eyes of Michael Johnson. However, this is not the first time. Few days back, social media witnessed him marveling at a young tennis prodigy.

Coco Gauff stuns Johnson

Coco Gauff has nabbed six WTA Tour singles titles which also inculcates a Major at the 2023 US Open. She also has eight doubles titles. Gauff has the career rankings of World No.3 in singles and World No.1 in doubles by the WTA. A few days back, Michael Johnson reposted a clip of Coco Gauff’s match against Markéta Vondroušová. It showed Gauff leveling the score at 5-7, 7-6(4). Praising Gauff Johnson wrote for this, “The athleticism here is ridiculous. And this doesn’t even show the skill!”

Johnson himself was the ideal representation of speed during his track days. With his staunch skills, he has won four Olympic gold medals and eight World Championships gold medals. Johnson held the world and Olympic records in the 200m and 400m. He also once held the world’s best time in the 300m. Even after bidding goodbye to the tracks, he has not left his love for speed. He continues to find it among the budding talents across the sports.
