Kentucky’s Abby Steiner Receives a Special Award for Recent Blistering Performances

Abby Steiner, an American track and field sprinter, has been named Kentucky Female Athlete of The Year, along with Rhyne Howard from basketball. The 20th Annual CATSPY Awards were held on Wednesday. They recognize athletic and academic performances during the 2021-22 season in the University of Kentucky Athletics Department.

Steiner shattered several NCAA, SEC, and school records and ran the second-fastest indoor 200 meters in world history.
Abby Steiner: awards and accolades
The sprinter has also been named USTFCCCA National Women’s Athlete of the Week five times. In addition, she has been awarded SEC Women’s Runner of the Week for the fourth time this season.
Earlier in the year, Steiner broke the American indoor record in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.09 at the SEC Track & Field Championships at Texas A&M. She has the second-fastest record ever, just behind Jamaican Merlene Ottey’s 21.87 indoor world record.

Steiner is a two-time NCAA Indoor 200m Champion (2021, 2022); a three-time SEC Indoor 200m Champion (2020-2022); and the Collegiate, SEC, and Kentucky record-holder in both the 200m and 300m.

One of the greatest collegiate track seasons ever
Steiner has several achievements under her belt, and this is only her first year in the senior division. In the outdoor events category, Steiner has already made her mark. She broke the 100m school record with a wind-legal time of 10.92 at the Joe May Invitational earlier, which was also the fifth-fastest in collegiate history. In the 100m at Florida Relays, Steiner ran for a personal best (11.10) becoming the fourth fastest in UKTF history in the event.

With the 2024 Paris Olympics in view, Steiner might be the one to watch out for with her incredible growth.
