

There were a lot of expectations from the Tokyo Olympics silver medalist Fred Kerley going into the 2022 Kip Keino Classic. However, once again, he had to settle for second place in Nairobi as well. Though this time, instead of Lamont Marcell Jacobs, it was Ferdinand Omanyala of Kenya who clinched the victory from Kerley’s jaw.

For an instance, it appeared that Fred Kerley was going to win the race, but Ferdinand Omanyala made sure that the marginal difference stays till the finish line. The Kenyan clocked a record time of 9:85 seconds, while Fred finished the 100m race in 9:92 seconds. Though this is absolutely disheartening for the American,? this is the result he’ll have to accept for now.
Did technical error kill Fred Kerley’s focus?
The first time the race started, the American sprinter was way ahead of his competitors. However, due to a technical error, the sprinters had to stop, and the race was restarted. Of all the things Fred might be thinking about right now, this would surely have crossed his mind. Perhaps starting over the race may have affected his overall focus. Perhaps the result could have been different.

Though still, he was the second-fastest on the track, and as for Ferdinand Omanyala, the fastest African man was absolutely flying on the track. The champion managed to give the home crowd a perfect show and in return; he got the proud cheering from each and every member present at the Nairobi stadium.

Fred Kerley couldn’t achieve his 100m goal time
At the start of the season, the American was looking positive to set a new world record in the 100m track race. He wanted to break track legend Usain Bolt’s record. However, in today’s race, he couldn’t even surpass his personal best of 9.84 seconds in the 100m.

The 27-year-old American track sensation has a lot to figure out in the short-distance races. He definitely has the talent and what it takes to be the champion, but being at the top is not going to be easy for Fred.
