Track and field star Noah Lyles faced the ire of NBA superstars such as Damian Lillard and Kevin Durant for his controversial “world champions” comment. He had offended the whole NBA community with that. Fans criticized the sprinting hero online for several weeks. Amid all these, Noah Lyles stayed true to his “cool guy” image and feigned ignorance. However, a special invitation to an NFL game forced him to confront the situation head-on, and what transpired next left him pleasantly astonished.

Noah Lyles visited the ChiefsJets game at the MetLife Stadium, expecting backlash from the fans. The NBA and the NFL are the two major leagues in the US, and as such, they enjoy a broad crossover of fans. Lyles was apprehensive of facing the angry fans at an NBA game and chose to test the waters at this NFL match. The stadium was buzzing with excitement surrounding the new couple, Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift, and Lyles seized the moment to patch things with the irate fans.

There was much fanfare surrounding his visit as the emcee reminded Lyles that the sprinter was due for another gold or two at the upcoming Paris Olympics. From the field, the double world champion addressed the crowds as they erupted in cheers.

After his 200m victory in the world championships in Budapest, Noah Lyles took the NBA world to storm with his evaluation of NBA players. In an interview, he said, “You know what hurts me the most is that I have to watch the NBA Finals and they have ‘world champion’ on their head. World champion of what? The United States?” The NBA community naturally did not take that kindly and there was a severe backlash.
