Known as the ‘Ultimate Global Athletes Award,’ Laureus sets the bar for excellence in sports, with athletes vying to join a list of legends. The process begins with the selection of six nominees for each of the seven traditional award categories by the 1,300 members of the Laureus Global Media Panel. Adding to the mix, the Laureus World Sportsperson of the Year with a Disability award is decided by a vote from the International Paralympic Committee. 

Along similar lines, the most curious part about the showdown is the nominees and its winners. Starting from 2009, 20010, 2013, and  2017, Bolt has carried on his legacy by winning the sports man award of the year multiple times. Yet, since his reign, no USA track and field athlete has claimed the title. From here, Jamaican stars Elaine Thompson-Herah in 2022 and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce in 2023 continued the legacy forward. But 2024 can be different.

Since Sha’Carri Richardson and Noah Lyles from the USA are nominated, fans are excited to watch them win. However, Sherica Jackson is there to challenge Sha’Carri in the women’s category alongside Mikaela Shiffrin and Faith Kipyegon, among others. Whereas in the men’s section, Noah has to go against big names like Novak. Djokovic, Lionel Messi, and Max Verstappen. With legends and newcomers alike vying for recognition, the world eagerly awaits to see who will etch their name in sporting history once again.
