Chase Ealey breaks the internet

On Friday, Throwerse Universe posted an interesting fact about the newly crowned world champion Chase Ealey on Twitter. According to the tweet, “Chase Ealey was the New Mexico state champion in 100m and shot put (2012).” The athlete managed to win the championship after finishing the 100-meter race in 12.35 seconds and throwing a shot put of 14.40 meters.

Interestingly, during her school days, the native of Los Amos, New Mexico, held an interest in a myriad of sports. Ealey competed in track, volleyball, and soccer events. However, after entering high school, the 29-year-old began her journey to create a career in athletics. As in the 2011 New Mexico State meet, the athlete won titles in the shot put, 100-meter race, and javelin events.

At the meet, Ealey even set a state record time with her team in the 4x100m relay race. Lastly, after high school, the athlete who had a choice to pursue heptathlon at the college level decided to choose shot put as her expertise. Notably, Chase Ealey is now the first U.S. athlete to secure gold in the shot put in World Athletics.

U.S. track and field star creates history

After missing her Olympic debut on the tracks of Tokyo amid finishing fifth at the trials, Chase Ealey soared to fame in the 2022 World Athletics. On her home soil, Ealey, who had dominated the event since the first attempt of six final rounds, secured America’s first gold at the World Athletics Championships with a throw of 20.49m.

Following this extraordinary achievement, this year, the athlete was able to defend her title by winning gold at the 2023 Worlds with her season-best throw of 20.43 m. After the match, while discussing her new technique, 29-year-old Eealey told the media, “It’s even more satisfying than last year because this year I’ve managed to get my technique sorted.”
