The most anticipated Zurich Diamond League is just around the corner, and, after a few days of rest from the World Athletics Championship, the athletes have geared up for the major event. Starting again on August 31st, on the tracks of Zurich, newly crowned World Athletics champions will be showcasing extraordinary performances. US stars Noah Lyles and Sha’Carri Richardson will also be participating in the event.

Following this, Team Jamaica has faced yet another setback after losing multiple victories to Team America. Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce will most likely not join the forces with Shericka Jackson to gain back the dominance of Jamaica at the Diamond League 2023.

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce not participating in the Diamond League

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce has faced yet another setback this season. The 36-year-old rendered a knee injury during her run on the tracks of Budapest, diminishing her chances of making it to the Diamond League.

In this concerning situation, the Jamaica Observer posted a few snapshots of Team Jamaica losing to Sha’Carri Richardson on Twitter with the caption ‘ It was a long walk back without the 10-time world champion.”

Further, while talking about her injury being worsened at her last run at the World Athletics Championships, the tweet stated, “After running to a blistering 41.21s to take silver, Jamaica’s Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce suffered an injury while running the second leg in the 4X100m relay at the World Championships in Budapest.”

According to the reports, “Fraser-Pryce’s knee injury appears to have been aggravated. She is scheduled to do an ultrasound.” The Jamaican athlete first sustained the injury before the world athletics championship but decided to compete in the event after a short hiatus.

At the beginning of the season, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce was faced with a gnarly injury. The 36-year-old who wanted to start her 2023 season in Kenya, injured her knee while training for the Kip Kieno event.

Amid this situation, the Jamaican sprinter decided to make her debut in the 100-meter race in Switzerland. Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce who was able to regain her form after back-to-back wins, even managed to reach the finals of the championship.

Fraser-Pryce medical team also conceded that the athlete is now in good health and is currently on the path to recovery. Dr. Warren Blake revealed that Fraser-Pryce is a little upset about the loss, but is still quite lively. He said, “[She is] in good spirits. I mean, a bit disappointed that we didn’t get the gold [medal] but despite that, she knows what championships are all about and she’s in good spirits.”

Although Fraser-Pryce’s withdrawal from the event is not final yet, the team Jamaica still has top-notch athletes like Shericka Jackson to clinch a medal in the event. Hopefully, the athlete will soon recover from the injury and join her team to bring back the dominance of Jamaica.
