The Kip Keino Classic was one of the most anticipated events of the year. With matchups like Fred Kerley v/s Marcell Jacobs and Sha’Carri Richardson v/s Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, the fans were in for a real treat. However, owing to various withdrawals before the event, the fans were left disappointed.

But, Pryce was determined to make it a great watch for her fans as she blew through the field. The Jamaican easily won the event, clocking in the fastest time of the year in the 100m event.

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce becomes the world’s fastest woman

The Jamaicans have long held dominion over the Track and Field events. Be it the Men’s or the Women’s events, they are usually the ones to watchout for. The World’s fastest man and the current world record holder in the 100m and the 200m category, Usain Bolt, also hails from Jamaica. Interestingly enough, the world’s fastest woman of 2022 is also from the same country!

While Olympic champion Elaine Thompson-Herah formerly held the title, her compatriot Shelly-Ann has overtaken her this time.

During this year’s Kip Keino Classic event, Pryce clocked in a time 0f 10.67seconds to become the fastest woman in the world in 2022. Elaine had previously posted a time of 10.89seconds to record the fastest time of the year. America’s Cambrea Sturgis overtook her by clocking in an impressive 10.87seconds. But, the record is now back with the Jamaicans, owing to Pryce’s incredible run.

Going into the race, Shelly-Ann was the clear favorite as her arch-rival, Richardson withdrew from the race. Christine Mboma, another favorite, also pulled out due to an injury. Second place went to Bassant Hemida (11.02s) while Shannon Ray finished third (11.33s).

The Jamaican sprinting stars were once part of the same track club. Founded in 1999, the MVP track club has produced some of the most elite athletes of all time. Hailing from the same country and being part of the same club, fans would expect the two to get along great but the reality might be a little different.

The coach, Stephen Francis, said that Pryce left the club due to her relationship with Elaine. He hinted at the fact that the two had a rather sour bond. While Pryce left during the Coronavirus pandemic. After the 2021 season, Elaine also left the club to train on her own.
