Although it has been a long time since the beloved ‘Flo-Jo’ of the track and field has left the Earth, her memory is still fresh in her daughter’s heart. Flo Jo’s daughter put up a family picture on her social media in what was a heartfelt tribute to her grandmother.

However, apart from her grandmother, the picture also had her mother, Florence Griffith Joyner, smiling as ever, in her trademark vibrant manner. Flo Jo’s daughter recently had yet another heartbreak when her grandma passed away on January 19, 2024. With just two months gone, it was expected that the 33-year-old would be missing her grandmother on her birth anniversary.

Honoring Delores Griffith Joyner on her birth anniversary, Mary Ruth Joyner shared a family picture on her Instagram story. The picture portrayed a little Mary, Delores, and Flo Jo, all smiling. Such a picture surely left Flo Jo’s fans with a heavy heart. She was just 38 years old when the world was shocked to learn about her demise. It was reported that the athlete passed away in her sleep due to an epileptic seizure. 

Flo Jo’s greatness can be attributed to the fact that the records she made way back in 1988 are still unscathed to date. Her 10.49s in 100m and 21.34s in the 200m timing in the female division makes her the undisputed ‘Fastest Woman on the Planet’ even after her demise. Well, Flo Jo had a knack for running right from her toddler days. 

In a throwback interview, her mother recalled how the legend would run while she was just learning to walk. Doubling down on the hilarious incident, Delores stated, “When she was in the walker, we called her “Lightening” because when she started to walk, she did not walk — she ran all through the house!” While Flo Jo might have left the Earth a little too soon, her daughter has made sure that she follows in her mother’s footsteps to pursue greatness, albeit in a different field.
