USA’s Olympic Track and Field Star Returns Back to Wanamaker Mile After Missing Previous Edition Due to Pregnancy

The 2024 track and field world is ready to set its tone with the Millrose Games and all the athletes are amped up to start the season. The Millrose Games is an annual indoor athletics meet which is held in February every year in New York City. It comes under one of the most prestigious indoor track meets in the world and has some of the best athletes performing in it every year.

It was first started in 1908 and ever since then, it has delivered some of the staunch track performances to witness. The 2024 iteration of this event is not going to be any different. It will inculcate some of the ideal athletes including the Wanamaker Mile record holder. 

Track and field American record holder to be back for Millrose Games

All the track and field enthusiasts are more than excited to witness one of the major athletic competitions of the 2024 season. Starting on the 11th of February 2024, athletes are ready to compete with each other. One event that has attracted the most attention is the Wanamaker Mile race which is one of the most prestigious indoor mile races for elite middle-distance runners. According to Citius Mag, this year’s roster contains some of the best athletes and one of them is the American Wanamaker Mile record holder, Elinor Purrier St. Pierre.

She created a record of 4:16.85 in the 2020 edition of the meet. She is returning to the competition after a year’s break. She gave birth to her son Ivan in March 2023 and then returned to the field in September 2023.  Not just the 2020 record, she also won the 2019 and 2022 iteration of the Wanamaker Mile. Apart from her, this event also carries some other ideal athletes to light up the competition.

Other ideal athletes at the Wanamaker Mile 

Along with the American record holder, the Wanamaker Mile will feature some of the ideal athletes to compete against each other. It will have the 2023 World Championship 1500m finalists, Jessica Hull and Katie Snowden. With them, Ethiopia’s Axumawit Embaye who is a 2x World Indoor silver medalist in the 1500m will also be a part of the Millrose Games.

Adding to the list, last year’s winner Laura Muir will also participate in the event to defend her title. This 116th Millrose Game at The Armory is one of the most anticipated races and the track enthusiasts are on their toes to witness this exciting race.
