Sports are highly competitive, but sometimes the competition can turn into physical aggression. This is what happened at the Florida HS track meet last weekend. During a 1600 meter race event, an athlete was attacked from behind while he was running. However, as per the reports, the athlete who slapped the runner on the head was not part of the race.

Everybody present at the event was shocked by the sudden impulsive action between the race. It was reported that the runner in the first place told the person who slapped him to move aside from the track on the previous lap. The accused even said that the runner pushed him over and, in retaliation, he chased him and knocked him down.

The track runner who was punched is going to press charges

The incident is not just confined to the field anymore, but pretty soon it’ll be moving to court. The punched runner wants to press charges against the accused and may even file a lawsuit. Nathan Carter, the attorney for the punched runner, said, “The family has read reports that the OCSD claims [my client] refused to press charges. This is false.”

He further added, “the runner suffered a concussion as a result of the incident … and is exploring civil remedies against all those responsible.”

Bizzare moments happened in track and field before

Well, incidents like these are pretty common in sports. One moment, everything seems to be under control and the next something out of the blue occurs. Bizzare moments like these have occurred in the past across various different sports and can be quite embarrassing for concerned athletes.

While strange incidents like these cannot be totally eliminated, authorities can certainly step up and have some protocols in place to prevent the occurrence of such incidents in the first place.
