Fans know Jackie Chan for his extraordinary stunts and representation of martial arts. But there is a more emotional side to him. He opened up about unknown facts of his life in his autobiography Never Grow Up. He shared a perennial relationship with his father, and after the latter’s death had an unpleasant experience returning to his father’s home.

Chan saw that the gifts he had been giving his father for some years, were lying untouched. This small gesture from his father upset the actor gravely. Though he presented his father with a collection of expensive wine bottles, the unostentatious man decided not to open them even for friends. Here is what Chan faced.

What surprise awaited Jackie Chan?

In his autobiography, “Never Grow Up”, Chan talked about an incident that took place when he returned to his father’s house after the funeral. Previously, his intention was to clean up the house and get rid of anything unnecessary. On arriving there, he had to face a difficult situation! Chan gifted his father a huge collection of red wine previously but he had left everything untouched. He said, “After the funeral, I went back to his home to clear it out and found all the wine I?d bought him over the years, all carefully stored. He hadn?t touched a single bottle. It was heartbreaking.”

This was a heart-wrenching incident for Chan. After this, he sat on the floor and opened two of the bottles to drink with his crew. Saying, “Open them; what?s the point of keeping them?“. From then on he never collected red wine and gave them away to charity or sold some from his father’s collection.

An anecdote on his father’s accumulation

Earlier Chan had presented his father with a very expensive red wine bottle which he had loved. But after a while, the martial artist got a call from one of his friends, who visited his father’s place in Australia, informing him about the wine bottle breaking. Chan said in response that he would bring one more.

But to his surprise, his father called him late at night to tell him, ?Actually the bottle isn?t broken. I just couldn?t bear to uncork it for your friend.? Chan laughed heartily at this. It was a sweet gesture from his frugal father who wanted to hold on to the expensive gifts as long as he could.
