The country’s collegiate volleyball circuit is buzzing with excitement ahead of the NCAA Division I season. Several players from the country are creating ripples with their decision to hit the transfer portal, while others are opting to continue to build their legacy further with their current teams. For the Maryland Terps, 2023 hadn’t been what they envisioned. With a record of 17-15, the Terps failed to make the cut for the NCAA tournament, but it looks like their confidence might just get a boost with one of their star players making a crucial decision.

Sam Csire, the Terps’ outside hitter jostled into an elite club with 1,000 career kills last season. Now, the Maryland senior looks to share definitive plans of where to spend the remainder of her collegiate career, and Terps fans are bracing up for a better time this season.

In a recent social media post by the official Maryland Volleyball account, news of Csire’s decision to extend her stay as a Terp has been shared. ″𝐂𝐬𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤!“, reads the post’s caption, accompanied by an emphatic image of Sam in Terps gear. “@samcsire is running it back for another year with the Terps“, elaborates the post further. With that, the Maryland women’s volleyball team looks to retain its attacking depth with one of their key players opting to hold the fort during troubled times.

In 2023, Csire recorded her career high with 5 aces against Utah Valley, forever etching her name as a Terp legend. And now, with her back in the team, Maryland can buckle up for a better display of attacking mentality for the upcoming season. The Terps finished the 2023 season with seven straight Big Ten wins. However, with an average of just above .500, Maryland’s dreams of making a triumphant return to the NCAA weren’t assured.

One take at a time

Growing up, I didn’t really have an interest in Olympic sports, but it was always something intriguing. As I found the means and the opportunity to explore its world, I found sports like volleyball, and track & field to be something that had tons to offer instead of just scoring through kills and sprinting toward the finish line. Whether it is Nebraska Huskers dominating the court or Noah Lyles maintaining his winning spree on the tracks, these two sports never fail to serve adrenaline rush to their spectators.
