In the NCAA Volleyball Tournament, the much-anticipated battle between the Nebraska Huskers and Wisconsin Badgers is yet to take place. Both teams have secured a berth in the semifinal showdown at NCAA this season. On the other hand, in a fiery match-up, arch-rivals Louisville and Pittsburgh Panthers faced each other in the recent quarterfinal showdown.

The last time the teams met on NCAA volleyball turf was in the 2022 NCAA semifinals. On that occasion, the Panthers had to bow down to Louisville. In a sweet revenge this time, the Panthers went past Louisville in the quarterfinals in a reverse sweep. Recently, a Panthers star opened up about their match-winning strategy.

A Candid Look at recent win

Panthers’ outside hitter Torrey Stafford recently sat with Michella Chester. Giving a glimpse of what happened during the match, she said, “We ran to the bathroom. We had a yell, we screamed … It lit something in us, and we came out third set striking really hard.” NCAA Women’s Volleyball posted the clip while writing, “Torrey Stafford chats with @michellachester about how (1) @Pitt_VB changed their mindset in the third set of the reverse sweep over (2) Louisville and the excitement of making it to the semifinals.

After the conclusion of the first two sets, spectators were quite confident about Louisville’s win. However, in the next set as the team made an incredible comeback, extending the match to five sets. Eventually, in the five-set thriller, Pittsburgh dominated the opponent, securing 25-23, 25-20, 16-25, 19-25, and 7-15.

In the same tweet, Torrey Stafford said, “That’sstriking really hard. Lexus came in the huddle like our veteran on the team. She was talking to us and making sure that everyone was on it for this next uh set, and it carried on, and we ended up winning third, fourth, and fifth, so we carried on.” However, a bigger challenge awaits the Panthers in the coming days.

Can the Panthers pass through the Nebraskan wall?

Undoubtedly, the Pittsburgh Panthers played superbly to clinch a spot at the semifinal showdown. While Pittsburgh’s volleyball team is in fourth place, Nebraska Huskers reigns the ranking, standing atop the podium. In the semifinal showdown, Pittsburgh will be facing the Nebraska Huskers in Tampa this Thursday.

Overall, the Pittsburgh Panthers have significantly succeeded by performing exceptionally well on the volleyball court. But they may find their biggest obstacle in the Nebraska Huskers. The upcoming match is relatively more challenging for Pitts than the quarterfinal showdown. Will Pitts be able to overcome intense competition?
