Texas Longhorns fans speak on the 2009 Big 12 match

During the highly-anticipated football match between Nebraska and Texas in 2009, the Longhorns clinched a last-moment win in Arlington, Texas. While the match ended 13-12, the final whistle made Huskers fans claim that the time wasn’t up. Now, as the Longhorns face the Huskers as their 2023 NCAA final opponents, the old dispute is once again in the talks.

In the post on X, reporters of a sports media company sought the Longhorns fans’ opinions about Nebraska ahead of their match against the Badgers in Tampa, Florida. The reporter asks, “What do you think of Nebraska fans” , and Longhorns supporters didn’t disappoint. One fan said, “They’re wild and have a lot of energy“. Another fan acknowledged that the Huskers are “awesome“.

While this could’ve ended there, the reporter wanted the fans’ take on the 2009 match. She asked if they thought the clock still had time left. One Texas loyalist refused to cave in. The Longhorn enthusiast said the time was up on that fateful night and Texas won the match fair and square. However, for the other fan, Texas may have gotten the benefit of the doubt in the controversial Big 12 Championship match. This flair of rivalry has its mark on the NCAA championship as well.

In the years 1995 and 2015, Texas had to bow down to Nebraska in the finals. While the Longhorns will look to put the age-old debacles to rest, Nebraska will vie to keep their streak against the Longhorns alive. It remains to be seen who holds the ground on December 17.
