Coach Mansfield Reflects on the “Perfect Storm” K-State Weathered on Texas as They End 39-Game Losing Streak

The Wildcats did the impossible. The Kansas State Volleyball team was ready to give the Longhorns the biggest upset of the season. After a decade-long drought of wins, the Wildcats finally clinched a victory against Texas. Winning was something that Kansas State volleyball forgot against Texas after 2003. Texas has dominated every game against Kansas for almost two decades now.

But the Wildcats didn’t let that winning streak pass on for another season as they defeated the no.3 ranked Texas in a clean sweep. Coach Jason Mansfield was incredibly proud of his team and shared words of praise for his team in an interview.

A perfect storm for the volleyball team

In the interview, Coach Mansfield talked about everything that has led up to the win and being proud of the team. After a set of disappointing losses, it was incredible to register a historic win. “It was kind of a perfect storm for us, of continuing to get better,” said the Coach. @NCAAVolleyball posted the interview on their X account and wrote, “It was a little bit of a perfect storm.”@michellachester chats with @KStateVB head coach Jason Mansfield on how the Wildcats executed the sweep over No. 3 Texas for the first time since 2003, breaking the 39-match conference winning streak.”

K-State swept the Longhorns in a close game with 25-22, 25-22, 25-21. Not giving the chance to the team to get back into the game. They destroyed Texas’s defense to assert dominance in the game. The underdog team was determined to win this match. This is the biggest win of this season for them. For an underdog team like K-State Volleyball, it was far more important to end the 39-game losing streak against the Longhorns.

Coach Mansfield was talking about his team and how focused they were. After the disappointing losses, they just got back and focused on improving in the next game. They could go with the flow as they shattered the Texas defense. The coach had all praise for the focused game of the girls and the support of the crowd throughout the game.

The coach and the players

The outside hitters were the key to the win against the Longhorns. The coach talked about Aliyah Carter’s incredible 20 kills for Kansas State and the overall theme of teamwork being the very reason for this victory. The coach understands that the team has high expectations and knows that it is the key that the team is ready to put in all the work to grow.

This is the first season for the coach at the K-State and it has been very special to him. To see how invested the whole town is in the game and how invested the player are in their growth makes him happy. He talked about the new arena that the K-State has and the electric cheers of the crowd supporting them are something very special to the coach. Feeling lucky to have such support and talent around is a pure blessing for the coach.
