Two of the participating teams have played a pivotal role in the Big Ten Championships. Since the beginning, Nebraska and Wisconsin Badgers volleyball teams were the top two teams in the championship. However, On the 21st of the last month, Nebraska entered the arena to face off team Wisconsin. Even though both teams provided an intense showdown, Nebraska clinched the match with a 3-2 score.

Therefore, team Wisconsin dropped to the No.2 position while Nebraska took over the first position. Unfortunately, team Wisconsin was not able to secure its second position as well.  

Final rankings of the year disclosed

On November 21, the final top 25 rankings of the year are announced. Highlighting the result, the recent NCAA Women’s Volleyball tweet wrote, “The last and final Top 25 rankings of the year!! Pitt_VB joins the top 3, and KentuckyVB enters the top 10. Week 13 AVCAVolleyball/ Taraflex Coaches Poll.”  Nebraska expectedly stands atop the podium in the final top 25 ranks given by the AVCA Volleyball poll.

In addition to being the top this year, Nebraska also clinched the 2023 Big Ten Volleyball championship title and a berth to the NCAA Tournament. Apart from team Nebraska, the top five teams include Stanford, Pittsburg, Texas, and Wisconsin. Further, in the final top 25 ranks, team Kentucky clinched the 10th position. 

Even though this year was favorable for team Nebraska, the game was different for team Wisconsin. Despite pouring all possible efforts into the Big Ten Championships, the Wisconsin Badgers could not defend their top rank or clinch the Big Ten Volleyball Championships 2023 title.  

Why the Badgers slipped to 5th position?

From the beginning of the Big Ten Volleyball Championships, The battle was between Nebraska and Wisconsin for the top position. While team Nebraska proved the claim of the spectators right, Wisconsin’s Badgers could not do the same. Even though Wisconsin’s Badgers were the top team in the championship, it could not secure its rank throughout. It happened when Nebraska took it over and reached the top spot.

A Few matches after a defeat from team Nebraska, team Wisconsin Badgers witnessed a significant upset and dropped to the No. 5th position. Wisconsin Badgers saw defeats from team Penn State by 1-3 and team Purdue by 2-3. Therefore, the team slipped to its current position in the overall rankings. 

However, they still have a chance to improve their ranking in the upcoming match with team Nebraska scheduled on the 24th of November, this Friday. Will team Wisconsin Be able to defeat No. 1 team Nebraska while ending their 27-win undefeated streak?
