The off-season recruitment time after the end of the 2023 NCAA Women’s Volleyball season has been very intense. The stakes have been one of the highest for the Nebraska Huskers who have both gained and lost several players. Despite this, head coach John Cook seems to have contained everything for the 2024 season.

Cook had a very determined look in his eyes after the final match loss against Texas despite a stellar campaign. To surpass all limits with the Nebraska Huskers, he has shown great skill in the off-season recruitment. In fact, according to a social media post, he hasn’t just taken care of 2024, but further seasons as well.

The tremors caused in the high school scene by future Nebraska Huskers

Renowned Nebraska Huskers newswriter Lincoln Arneal recently added a new tweet to his official X account. He wrote, “Another update for the 2025 class at PrepVolleyball.com. OH Teraya Sigler continues her rise and is now No. 2 overall (up three spots). S Campbell Flynn moves up five spots to No. 8. RS Ryan Hunter is now No. 28, down 11. L Keri Liembach drops from No. 25 to No. 41.”

This comes as a reply to his own tweet from July 2023, where he talked about the upward trajectory of these players. The Nebraska Huskers have struck gold in the form of Skyler Pierce and Olivia Mauch in 2024. However, the 2025 class also carries a lot of weight.

Interestingly, the fact that these players will be eligible for a collegiate career in another two years speaks volumes about the far-sightedness of John Cook. The 67-year-old has held the reins of the Nebraska Huskers since 2000 and his eye for talent has only grown better. In fact, he also hit the jackpot with his 2023 recruits.

The unrivaled scouting skills of John Cook

Several volleyball programs go the usual route of acquiring top collegiate players via the off-season trading portal. However, head coach John Cook has always believed in cultivating talent under his own watch. Using this approach, he gave rise to great players in almost every position. While Harper Murray is a great outside hitter, Bergen Reilly bagged multiple honors as a setter in 2023.

On top of it, captain Lexi Rodriguez bagged All-American honors for the third consecutive year in three years of her collegiate career. Moreover, he also grooms transfer players and enabled Merritt Beason to earn her first All-American honors as well. Cook is the most successful coach the Nebraska Huskers have ever had and has led the program to four of its five NCAA wins. Will 2024 be the year he bags his fifth win with the Huskers?
