“I’m Extremely Confident”: 36YO USA’s Volleyball Dynamo Opens Up on the Team’s Mindset and Readiness for the Upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics

The Volleyball Paris Olympic qualifier is in full swing motion in Tokyo, Japan. The event kick started on 30th September and it will be running up to 8th October. The US Volleyball team is trying their best to showcase their prowess on the court. This nine-day extravaganza might prove lucky for them. The team is eager to fetch their berth in the upcoming summer Olympics in Paris.

So far they have remained unbeaten. In their first match, they downed Egypt, followed by Finland and recently they defeated Turkey. Yesterday they took a quick sweep against Tunisia. They amazed everyone with their sportsmanship and teamwork. Amidst this, a much more experienced and dynamic player shared his instincts and thoughts on his team.

The amazing veteran outside/opposite hitter Matt Anderson feels very confident about his team members. He stands as an advisor and a support system for them. He truly believes in teamwork with collaboration and a tuned spirit. As one of the older members of the team, he had much experience on the Volleyball ground. The three-time Olympian in 2012, 2016, and 2020 is eager to fetch a seat for the US men’ Volleyball team in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

“I just think there’s a quiet confidence about this team that when we step in the gym, we like our chances against anybody in the world,” Matt said in an exclusive interview Olympics. He also emphasized the importance of mutual support. He further added “I’m extremely confident,” he said. “I’m confident because of what we’ve done in the past and how we’ve trained these last few months this summer, how we’ve competed, and how much I trust my teammates – and I believe they trust in me, too, to win”.

According to Anderson, the older and much-experienced members can motivate the younger ones, in times of distress and disappointment. Similarly, the younger ones can also motivate the older ones with their high energy and enthusiasm. So, things always work in mutual effort and understanding. This can help them to go smoothly throughout the Road to Paris FIVB Olympics Qualifier.

The US team is hitting on their best form with successive victories. They don’t want to repeat the same mistake that they committed in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and now their main aim is to guarantee the glittering gold in the 2024 Olympics as the reward of their struggle and perseverance. Their quest and hunger for the gold is very strong and they don’t want to miss the chance.

The team is like a powerhouse of power-packed performers. Matt Anderson discussing the other older and veteran members said this, “All that experience, we can draw from that in the big moments in these big tournaments.” He was referring to David Smith and Max Holt. They are also in their 30s. Anderson does not want to feel the disappointment and stress which comes along with the loss in the game. He is ready to fuel his team with energy and motivation. This is what he had to say, “[Those] massive disappointments, you [have to] manage expectations after the fact.”

He and his team showed their strength in the first week. There is no looking back for the team and their main focus is not just securing their place in the 2024 Paris Olympics but experiencing the moment of winning the Gold. Thus their goal is much bigger and grand.
