The Long Island University (LIU) Sharks Women’s Volleyball Team clinched a massive victory against the FDU Knights in a very important match. The LIU Sharks won the game in a thrilling four-set entertainer, as they claimed the highly prestigious NEC Championship. The LIU Sharks picked the attack of the Knights apart as the game progressed and ended the match with a win.

A social media post declared the handsome result achieved by the Sharks and their status as the champions of the Northeast Conference. In fact, with the championship win, the Sharks also got their hands on another staunch achievement.

LIU Sharks head into the NCAA Women’s Volleyball postseason

The LIU Sharks Women’s Volleyball Team sunk down the ship of the FDU Knights as they chomped down its offense. The Sharks won the match with scores of 25-20, 21-25, 25-14, and 25-13. NCAA Women’s Volleyball announced the Sharks’ victory via its official X account along with a very important detail. The tweet carried the caption, “WARNING: SHARK INFESTED WATERS! In tonight’s @NECsports championship match, @LIU_Volleyball defeats FDU in 4, securing the AQ, their first championship win since 2017.”

Interestingly, while they won the prestigious NEC Championship, they also earned an automatic qualification into the NCAA playoffs. With this, the Sharks ended their six-year championship drought and claimed the NEC Championship once again. While these put them directly on the radar of all the powerhouse teams, it won’t be a new task for LIU. In fact, it came out on top of the Northeast Conference by winning against its top teams as well.

Rising to the top after clashing with the Titans

The LIU Sharks had defeated the second-ranked Northeast Conference team of Sacred Hearts to enter the finals. FDU Knights, their final opponents, were the first-ranked team in the NE Conference, despite having the same conference record of 11-3. While this proves that the Sharks can take on big names in the NCAA, the scorecard of the match says they can also dominate them.

The LIU Sharks Women’s Volleyball team didn’t allow the Knights to touch the 15-point mark in sets three and four. Moreover, they displayed spine-chilling defensive prowess as they blocked 14 kill attempts of FDU while they could manage just four.

The Sharks also showed offensive dominance with five service aces against FDU’s one. The Northeast Conference Championship had been eluding the grasp of the LIU Sharks Women’s Volleyball Team for six long years. However, they finally got their hands on the prestigious title. Is 2023 the year of the Sharks and will they also bag the NCAA Championship this season?
