For Merritt Beason, everything seems to come with a positive touch. Last week she ended her college career flawlessly for the Nebraska Huskers volleyball team. Although the Huskers’ captain fell short of making her squad the NCAA Division 1 Volleyball Championship, she concluded her two-year stint in the program with a phenomenal personal record. What’s that? Beason didn’t have to taste a defeat in any of the Huskers’ home games. Hold on! The Gardendale native has a few more. One such is her PVF draft. But another one is quite interesting. Wanna know?
In November this year, Merritt Beason landed an enormous success. She became the No. 1 for the Pro Volleyball Federation (PVF) club, Atlanta Vibe. This draft marked the league’s first after its inaugural season earlier this year. Definitely, that posed an honor for the 6’4” outside hitter. In a few weeks, she will join Atlanta Vibe. Furthermore, the fold has Kayla Banwarth as the head coach. Remember her? Well, apart from being a former standout, Kayla played a prominent role in the Huskers’ coaching group. Therefore, Beason will not have to look far away to find the Huskers’ touch while representing the PVF team. And there’s some more good news for her.
It is about Merritt Beason’s sibling, though. On December 22, her brother, Mac Beason, shared the news on his social media handles. The news is that he is on his way to commit to UVA Wise Football. He will soon join his ‘home’ team to continue his college football career. The Beason siblings claimed all these as the double bonanza on the eve of Christmas. Naturally, celebratory moments had to come. And it did!

On December 25, Merritt shared a clip on TikTok doing dance steps in her house. Her brother, Mac, had been under the same roof. He also joined the party, showing some moves in the clip. Meanwhile, Merritt summed it up perfectly. She kept the clip’s caption: “POV: Santa brings a pro contact & college commitment.” The reasons that drove the Beason siblings to make their house a dance floor! But things hadn’t been that easy for the Huskers alum until a few days ago.
Last week Merritt’s reminiscing over the Huskers days made her emotional. She failed to reconcile with the fact that she wasn’t a Husker anymore and she would have to embrace a unique identity while earning her professional tag. The 21-year-old had to walk off the court in her final college volleyball match without tasting victory. Deep down there, this might remain as a scar in Merritt Beason’s heart. That feeling came out in her TikTok post last week. In the mentioned clip, she kept the caption: “Crazy how quickly life changes. So sad & so excited at the same time.”
The excitement came as Merritt Beason was about to start a fresh phase of her volleyball career. And the gloomy tone spread the blanket because of her parting ways with the Big Red. Nonetheless, a few years ago, she couldn’t even think of witnessing such situations. She hadn’t been close to her volleyball targets. Why were things like that?

In 2023, Huskers’ standout member Rebekah Allick suggested coach John Cook rope Beason in. On those days, Beason was in Florida. However, soon she accepted Cook’s call and landed in Nebraska. And the rest was nothing but a stunning tale. In the next two years, Beason came across several milestones, ones she couldn’t have thought of once. On her senior night, Merritt recalled those moments that ultimately made her the player she is. She eventually said, “These girls took me in at a time when I hated volleyball and at a time when, to be quite honest, I hated volleyball. I didn’t want to continue playing volleyball and wasn’t super confident in Merritt as a human being and these girls and all the coaching staff took me in and allowed me to flourish. There are countless memories and history that were made, but I think that alone is what I will forever be thankful for and something I didn’t know if I would ever get back.” Now, she is earning her wonderful moments in that same sport.
