It was a Spartans versus Lions at the Breslin Center in East Lansing. The game night became an unexpected upset and filled the court with giant roars. With the Michigan State and Penn State both going head-to-head at the volleyball court. In the back-and-forth exchange of a volleyball, kills and errors shook the center as one of them emerged victorious.

Saturday night came as an upset for the ranked team. Their decade-long winning streak against their opponent was broken. In an exclusive post-match interview, the Michigan State Volleyball coach was seen proudly talking about her team, praising them she said “Their composure at the end, that was amazing.”

Winning the game through resilience

“There is no quit in us, only fight”, with resilience and spirit of fighting in their heart the Spartans took over the victory on Saturday night game. The Michigan State Volleyball who has been struggling for decades to register win against their opponent, turned the tables and the winning drought. Registering a win against Penn State the Michigan State was all about cheers and celebration post-match. In a video posted by Big Ten Volleyball on their X account, MSU coach Leah Johnson reflected on the win.

Talking about her team she said, “I would go to war with them everyday”. Proud of her team the coach mentioned that her team is all about putting in the work and fighting to the end of the game. It was an exciting game that kept her off the chair. Cheering for her team and supporting them every second of the game. This victory has been a long time waiting. Defeating the opponent after more than a decade or some made this victory even more special for the coach and the team.

An exciting game of volleyball

In over a decade, this is the first time that Penn State fell to Michigan State. In an exclusive interview with Big Ten Volleyball coach Johnson said, “I felt like we were building to this, it was the moment, we talked about it before the game, go get yours, you’ve earned it.” Despite their 2-1 lead after the third seat, they weren’t able to close the last two and were out-gamed by the Michigan State. The first set closed in favor of Michigan State at 25-19. After back-forth of errors and kills, closing in leads and taking them up.

The second set was dominated by the extraordinary performance of Murzik putting Penn State into a big lead and winning the set at 25-11. The dominant performance withheld itself putting Michigan State at backfoot. The third set ended at 25-16 in favor of Penn State. To break the losing streak and come out as the winner Michigan State showed resilience and strength to out-game their opponent and win the next two sets with 25-18 and 18-16 emerging victorious in a thrilling game.

Breslin Center will be cheering for Michigan State again as they gear up to go against Maryland on November 3rd. Will they continue the winning streak after their last rumble with Penn State?
