The NCAA women’s volleyball is raging with full fury as the eighth week of the season comes to a close. The week witnessed some fiery performances from several teams, but the team that takes the cake is none other than Wisconsin. Continuing their unbeaten run in the eighth week, the Wisconsin Badgers recently registered another towering clean sweep and maintained their rank one position.

While the entire women’s volleyball team of Badgers is highly skilled, outside hitter Sarah Franklin went a mile extra in the eighth week. The senior Wisconsin player bagged the ‘B1G Player of the Week’ title following a stellar performance against Maryland Terrapins. In fact, Franklin became the first player to win the honor since October 2022 and shattered Wisconsin’s almost year-long drought.

Sarah Franklin established complete control and dominance in the last match of the Badgers against the Maryland Terrapins. Franklin led the attack and punctured several holes in the Maryland defense right from the get-go. This enabled her team to take control of the volleyball match and register a clean sweep against the opposition. The official Instagram handle of Wisconsin Volleyball uploaded a post to celebrate Franklin’s achievement.

The post carried the caption, “Frank the Tank coming in with B1G honors this week!” Franklin’s relentless kills against Maryland heavily dropped the confidence of Maryland players, who couldn’t surpass 16 points in any set. The initial takeover of the match’s tempo saw Wisconsin register their 27th straight-set victory this season.

While the Wisconsin Badgers haven’t faced any troubles maintaining their top spot, the Nebraska Huskers have come too close for comfort. Huskers currently stand at number two and boast an unbeaten streak of 17 wins this season just like Wisconsin. The Huskers have also won ten of their matchups via clean sweeps, including their last three matches. NCAA volleyball fans eagerly await the clash of the top institutions in a battle for supremacy.

While Wisconsin’s Sarah Franklin bagged the ‘Player of the Week honor’, Nebraska’s Lexi Rodriguez bagged the title of ‘Defensive Player of the Week.’ Interestingly, just like Franklin, Rodriguez also broke her team’s year-long dry spell of receiving the Defensive Player of the Week honor. Moreover, the last person to win it for Nebraska was Rodriguez herself. With both women in top shape, the NCAA women’s volleyball is surely going to take an interesting turn when Wisconsin battles Nebraska. Will Frank the Tank be able to run through the Huskers and retain Wisconsin’s numero uno spot?
