Or would they?

Keeping up with Nebraska’s volleyball tradition, the Omaha Supernovas have never failed to see their fans rallying behind the team at every game. But as another new pro league waits to surface in the USA’s dynamic volleyball scene, rumors of Laura “Bird” Kuhn & Co. jumping ship are also doing the rounds. But the Omaha coach has her sights set on the task at hand, for now.

A post by Huskers Illustrated’s Lincoln Arneal on X from January 19 shared Kuhn’s comments about the possibility of the Supernovas joining MLV (Major League Volleyball) once it begins next year. “We’re here in season. We’re focusing on winning a championship here and doing our jobs, and that’s really been our only focus,” Kuhn has been quoted saying as per the social media update. To Kuhn the link to MLV was just news, and it’s not something that has been on the mind of the squad.

With that, she also highlighted that she and the squad are excited for the 2025 PVF season as of now, and expected it to be a “fun” ride in the coming weeks. The Supernovas made history when they became the winners of the first edition of PVF. Their second campaign also started with a bang as Omaha won both of its first two matches. However, they soon treaded into troubled waters, losing the next two matches. However, while winning or losing is part and parcel of the game, fans haven’t been shy to show up with their support on every occasion nonetheless.

In its two seasons in the PVF, the Omaha Supernovas have also set multiple attendance records at the CHI Health Center, highlighting how Nebraska’s flagship pro team is tapping into the Huskers’ fandom. Naturally, speculations of such a pivotal team leaving the league are creating a ripple across the volleyball community. But just how concrete are these rumors and is Omaha truly en route to leaving behind the tournament that has brought it uncharted glory?

Are the Omaha Supernovas ready to welcome the change with open arms?

Just days ago, it was revealed on social media that the owners of the Omaha team have founded another pro volleyball league, which is likely to commence its journey in 2026. “Another professional volleyball league is coming to the U.S. in 2026. Danny White (the founder of the Supernovas) and Jason Derulo (his partner) and others are starting the Major League Volleyball,” Nebraska staff writer Abby Barmore dropped the bomb on X. Barmore also claimed that the Supernovas would join the MLV after its 2025 PVF season was over, shaking things up some more.

She also mentioned that MLV has onboarded 3x Olympic gold medalist volleyball player Kerri Walsh Jennings and Sacramento Kings’ chairperson Vivek Ranadivé to give the whole project a jumpstart. “Our sport deserves the best of the best. Our women are kick-ass individuals and athletes, and it is long overdue for there to be a product that resembles the biggest and brightest sports, media and entertainment platforms on the planet,” Jennings said. There are expected to be ten teams in the first edition of the MLV, which is set to launch with $100m in committed funding.

However, PVF has stated that Omaha’s departure won’t affect ongoing campaign, and the league will continue with its “unprecedented growth trajectory” nonetheless. But how do you think the Supernovas moving away would hamper PVF’s future? Share your take on the whole conundrum below!
