The Pittsburgh Panthers took the definition of seriousness to another level in their NCAA postseason opener. Facing the Coppin State Eagles on 1 December, the Panthers displayed a very ruthless gameplay as they took a dominating win.

While almost every team is weeding out the competition via clean sweeps, the Pittsburgh Panthers displayed absolute annihilation in their NCAA playoffs round. In fact, while the Panthers had free rein as they scored points, Coppin State remained completely crippled.

Pittsburgh destroys Coppin State to advance further

The official Instagram account of Pittsburgh Volleyball shared a joint post with the NCAA Women’s Volleyball to declare the dominance of its women’s volleyball team. The post carried the caption, “HAIL TO PITT. (1) @pitt_vb advances to round 2 after a dominant sweep of Coppin State.” 

The Pittsburgh Panthers are one of the feared powerhouse teams in the NCAA Women’s Volleyball Championship. However, their match against Coppin State saw them rip Coppin State apart with every single set. The points scored by the Eagles subsequently dwindled as the game progressed.

The Pittsburgh Panthers had a field day in terms of both offense and defense. Pittsburgh limited the Coppin State Eagles below 20 points in the first two sets of the match. However, the third set saw them strangling the Eagles below ten points as they clinched the NCAA postseason opener. In fact, the Eagles could only score a measly 14 kills throughout the match.

The utter dominance of the Panthers

The Pittsburgh Panthers maintained absolute control of the flow of their match against the Coppin State Eagles. While the Panthers restricted CSU to just 14 kills, they bombarded the Eagles with 44 kills of their own. Moreover, Pittsburgh also ramped up its defense in the NCAA playoff match and secured 48 digs. However, the CSU could only post 28 digs in response to Pittsburgh’s attack.

The well-rounded attack of the Pittsburgh Panthers relied on the back of their setter, Rachel Fairbanks. The junior volleyball player rotated the ball perfectly amongst her teammates and assisted them with their high-voltage kills. Fairbanks secured 36 assists in the NCAA postseason opener.

Interestingly, Rachel Fairbanks is the 2023 ACC Setter of the Year, who won the ‘Setter of the Week’ honor four times this year. Her skill had also helped the Panthers clinch the ACC Championships this year. Will Fairbanks and her team continue their destructive run and emerge as the winners of the 2023 NCAA Championships as well?
