Purdue clobber to 4th Big 10 triumph

Purdue’s resounding victory over Minnesota at Holloway Gymnasium on Thursday night marked their fourth consecutive win, leaving the audience in awe. They come into the upcoming match on the back of a four-game winning streak, with their most recent victory being a convincing 3-1 takedown of Michigan State. In a recent tweet by Purdue Volleyball with the caption Four straight wins,”

Mckenna Wucherer and Melani Shaffmaster shone brightly in that game, with Wucherer delivering an offensive onslaught of 17 kills, ably assisted by Shaffmaster’s 35 assists. When they met last season, they split their two games, with Purdue winning the first game in straight sets and Minnesota winning the second in four sets. The Spartans had no answer as Minnesota held them to a paltry hitting percentage of just 119. Shaffmaster also showcased her defensive prowess, recording 14 digs and a double-double performance. This win comes in the continuity of Purdue’s fabulous displays of late.

Purdue’s recent dominance over Illinois

In their most recent showdown with Illinois earlier this month, the Boilermakers delivered a decisive 3-0 victory at Holloway, marking their first clean sweep of the Illini since 2021. The match was illuminated by the brilliance of sophomore outside hitter Eva Hudson, who led the charge with an impressive 16 kills, while Chicoine followed closely with 11 of her own.

What truly stole the spotlight was Purdue’s defensive prowess, as they managed to keep Illinois under 20 points in each set despite being out-blocked six to four. The Boilermakers seem to have developed a knack for outperforming Illinois, boasting a 4-2 record in their last six encounters. Yet, it’s essential to mention that among these six matchups, four have unfurled into dramatic, nail-biting five-set battles, whether on home turf or during away games.
