The Texas Christian University Horned Frogs dueled against the Florida State Seminoles in a high-intensity NCAA playoffs opener. The match seemed to have turned into an endless tug-of-war as both teams pulled hard for the win. However, the final outcome favored the Horned Frogs as they walked away with a win.

The players of TCU entered the 1 December match after laboring hard for a berth in the playoffs. Not putting their grueling season campaign to waste, TCU upset the entire NCAA by defeating Florida State in a double-deuce game.

TCU Horned Frogs lands major upset

The official X account of TCU Volleyball tweeted about the nail-biting victory of its women’s team. The tweet carried the caption, “THE FROGS ARE ADVANCING!!!!” The TCU Horned Frogs went hard after Florida State, right from the start. Both sides fought to break the deuce in the first set, with TCU coming out on top of the Seminoles.

However, Florida State instantly retaliated and claimed a win in the second set while stunning TCU at just 16 points. Not losing morale, TCU paid the dues of Florida State in full in the third set and didn’t allow them more than 18 points. Both teams had turned their NCAA playoffs match into a gladiator round. 

However, the fourth set was the last draw of breath for Florida State. In fact, the last set also went into a deuce, which Florida State failed to clear despite fighting all out. While every player on the court wearing the Horned Frogs jersey contributed to the game, the contribution of Melanie Parra stood out in the powerhouse-slaying endeavor.

Melanie Parra enables TCU to sail through a rough sea

Melanie Parra is a junior at TCU and plays the outside hitter position for the Horned Frogs. While Parra has been phenomenal throughout her team’s regular NCAA season, she went the extra mile during the playoffs. Parra led her team in kills and smashed the ball on FSU’s court 23 times.

Moreover, the young and talented player also secured 11 digs during the match, showcasing her defensive skills as well. Interestingly, the TCU Horned Frogs are one of the fierce dark horse candidates in the tournament listed by the famous NCAA reporter, Michella Chester. Will the TCU continue its dark horse run and slay more powerhouse teams in the upcoming rounds of the NCAA playoffs as well?
