More than a fortnight ago, Texas A&M volleyball concluded its NCAA Volleyball Championship in Bob Devaney Sports Center. The Aggies tried everything to outfox the Wisconsin Badgers in the game. The scoreboard eventually went to 3-2, showcasing the utter contest between them. But the Badgers held their nerves and claimed the victory. The win helped them reach the NCAA regional final, and the loss knocked the Aggies out of the count. In the house full of red jerseys, the maroon and white jerseys failed to add another victory to their bag. A heartbreak for them! Still, Texas A&M had something to cherish.

No, it isn’t solely about a courageous performance against the Badgers. Rather, the Aggies received something from their supporters. After concluding the season with a record of 21-8, Texas A&M has secured another accomplishment. It pertains to the attendance at their games. Recent updates reveal that the Aggies attracted a total of 41,806 fans to the program’s games last season. Moreover, they have another statistic.

On January 3, the X-handle of Texas A&M volleyball shared another enviable number. It is about the average number of presences in its games. And the post says it is 3,216. Any comparison? In last year’s regular season, the Purdue Boilermakers set an attendance record in the Big Ten volleyball game. The available data says that on October 19, 14,876 fans entered Mackey Arena to attend Purdue’s game against Indiana. So, the Aggies’ fans marked approximately 1/3 of that count in the scale of average presence. Is it something commendable? Well, the Texas A&M volleyball program will gladly accept that.

The Maroon and White had a memorable endeavor last season. First, they achieved a 21-8 mark after experiencing a bittersweet journey (10-6) in the conference. Furthermore, the program had a 66% success rate in the away games, whereas in the home games, it touched more than 70% success rate. With a newly appointed coach at the helm, the Texas A&M volleyball program might be on the way to claiming the peak. However, the Aggies had some more memorable encounters last season. Can you guess what it was?

On September 6, the Aggies locked horns with their in-state rival, Texas State, in Reed Arena. Ultimately, they defeated the nemesis with a 3-0 result. But the script wasn’t over yet. On September 27, the Texas Longhorns came to Reed Arena and made the Aggies taste the bitter pill. They took the game away with a 3-1 result. The result came with a deep impact. Texas A&M had to make its side clear. The opportunity came on October 23. This time the Aggies landed in the Longhorns’ backyard and handed them a 3-2 result. The revenge was fulfilled. Now, the attendance number has come as the cherry on top for the program. But next season, they will have to fight hard to keep the attendance numbers in the top 10. The reason? The Big Red has something promised.

Texas A&M volleyball might face stiff competition

The NCAA final in the postseason broke Louisville Cardinals fans’ hearts. The Penn State Nittany Lions took the trophy ultimately. But the venue, KFC Yum! Center in downtown Louisville, felt elated. After all, it now has a position in the list of all-time NCAA volleyball games that have high attendance. The final game of the last NCAA Volleyball season has claimed the second position in the list with a headcount of 21,860. Meanwhile, the Nebraska volleyball program coach has something in his mind to go past the Big Ten volleyball record.

In a podcast on ‘Huskers Radio Network’ in October 2024, coach John Cook sounded confident about demolishing the Purdue Boilermakers’ record of having the most attendance in the Big Ten volleyball game. “Next year we’ll definitely be going to PBA (Pinnacle Bank Arena) so we can get that record too,” the coach said. But what is the PBA?

Pinnacle Bank Arena serves as the venue for both the Nebraska men’s and women’s basketball teams. It can accommodate 15,500 spectators. The record for volleyball attendance at PBA was established in 2016 when the US National team drew a crowd of 10,213 fans to the arena. So records can be uprooted in the coming days. Meanwhile, the Texas A&M volleyball program will have to bring such innovative plans to go beyond expectations. They know about their fans’ support. A push might result in a better number soon.
