The 2023 volleyball season was a blast, but it’ll probably get more exciting. The Texas Longhorns stunned fans all over the country with a shock win over No. 1-seed Nebraska in the NCAA finals. However, with a key player gone, next season will make the Longhorns scurry to retain its dominant position in the national circuit. But things are looking satisfactory as a shocking new update has emerged.

After the disappointing end to the Kentucky Wildcats’ NCAA run, one of their most crucial team members was announced to be available in the transfer portal. The Texas Longhorns’ blocker Asjia O’Neal leaving after her six years of association, it appears that the Longhorns might be looking to add more depth in other areas.

Reagan Rutherford, the Kentucky hitter, announced that she was looking for a new squad for the next season. In her latest Instagram post, Rutherford has announced her commitment to Texas. “I’m so excited to announce my commitment to Texas!! Can’t wait to start this new journey“, wrote Rutherford in her social media post.

Rutherford’s decision to play for Texas has been met with enthusiastic applause from both current and former Longhorns players. Asjia O’Neal also marked the move by saying, “Welcome home“, and we’re all on board. Other Texas players, including Madisen Skinner, Molly Phillips, and Emma Halter, have also shared their excitement to share the stage with the four-time SEC champ Rutherford.

Transfer portal is shaking things around

While the Texas Longhorns bolster their depth for the next season, Nebraska continues to stumble on its path. After being handed a defeat by Texas in the NCAA finals, Maggie Mendelson, the Huskers blocker, is set to leave the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The decision comes as a shock to many Huskers fans who expected to see Mendelson continue to sport the red and black stripes for at least a few more years.
