Dave Portnoy is equally famous for his pizza reviews as he is for his hot takes on several topics. He began making videos in 2017, where he would visit different pizza joints around New York City and review their quality. The viewers love these videos for Portnoy’s honesty and entertaining delivery. However, one such routine review in Massachusetts took an unexpected turn.

Dave Portnoy has been at an all-time high since regaining control of Barstool Sports in a financial coup of the century. Recently, he took on Kim Kardashian and even suggested that she be imprisoned. Portnoy has gotten into another heated spat, this time with a pizzeria owner in Somerville.

Dave Portnoy’s latest controversy

After coming back to the helm of his $600 million media company, the beloved president made an appearance in Somerville, Massachusetts. He intended to shoot a new episode for the “One Bite” show and went to a local shop ‘Dragon Pizza’. In the middle of his scathing critique, the owner of the store came out to defend his pizza. A verbal altercation ensued between the two of them, with both cursing at each other. Dave Portnoy used Twitter to inform his fans of the fight and even addressed it in an interview with Tucker Carlson. On Twitter, Portnoy wrote, “I’ve been waiting to go after the Dragon Pizza in Somerville guy for weeks. Figured I’d give a sneak peek. Tomorrow the full review drops”.

In the teaser for the full review, the proprietor of Dragon Pizza asked Portnoy to leave the street in front of the shop. He used colorful language to make his fervent hatred for Portnoy known. The shop owner blasted Portnoy for destroying local businesses with his negative reviews after taking just one bite of the food. He called him a clown with nothing better to do, but Dave Portnoy shut him down with an epic retort. He reminded the owner that he took the reins back of Barstool Sports from Penn “for a buck”. Dave Portnoy later revealed that he wanted to let the incident slide, but the owner’s actions on social media poked him.

Dave Portnoy vs. Dragon Pizza owner on social media

Dave Portnoy informed everyone through the blog entry in Barstool that the Dragon Pizza owner was claiming to have defeated him in a war of words. The owner claimed that he had “dominated”  the argument and come out as the winner. However, Dave Portnoy has a different story to tell. He left the shop premises only after the owner threatened to involve the police. The Barstool president said that his review score of 6.4 for the pizza was genuine because it was floppier than the usual New York-style pizza he was accustomed to and had an abundance of Parmesan flavor.

Portnoy defended himself, saying he has always supported small businesses and even helped to raise $50 million during the pandemic. Since the trailer came out, Dragon Pizza has received a slew of negative reviews online. Now, only the full review can prove if it was the reviewer or the owner who was out of line.
