Ryan Crouser was born in Portland, Oregon, on December 18, 1992. His father, Mitch Crouser, was an alternate for the U.S. Olympic team in 1984 and a thrower at the University of Idaho. At the University of Texas, Ryan Crouser has won four NCAA titles and created indoor and outdoor shot put records. He was named the Big 12 Indoor Freshman of the Year in 2012.

The American shot putter and discus thrower is currently holding the record for the top four throws in history. In both indoor and outdoor events, Crouser frequently smashed the shot put world record. On April 11, 2023, at UCLA’s Drake Stadium, Ryan Crouser broke the all-time record for the longest shot put with a throw of 23.56 meters. World Athletics later rejected the April 2023 record, following which Ryan set a new benchmark on 27 May 2023.

Crouser’s success at the World Championships in 2017 paved the way for his dominant displays in the years to follow. In the final, his best throw was 22.65 meters, a personal best at the time. Barely 0.1 meters short of the winning throw by Tom Walsh of New Zealand. Ryan won his first medal at a major international tournament, with a silver at the 2017 World Championships.

On February 18, 2023, during the Simplot Games in Idaho, he used the technique for the first time, and broke the indoor shot put record with a throw of 23.38 meters (76 feet, 8+1/4 inches). Since its debut, Crouser has used “The Crouser Slide” in various competitions, including the Los Angeles Grand Prix and the Drake Relays.

The 6-foot-7 athlete owns more than a third 22-meter throw in history, and has already thrown farther than 23 meters in seven distinct events so far in his career. Now, Crouser’s “technical” approach adds him to the best shot putter in history.
