According to a new social media post, the 125pound looks chaotic at the moment as Harvard’s young gun Diego Sotelo pulled off a major win against No. 1-raked Anthony Noto in the NCAA Division I 2023-24 season. The Davison Duals of Thursday enthralled the viewers with a star-studded line-up, but the final results weren’t part of the initial plans, by any means.

NCAA wrestling continues to awe fans

While the Zagreb Open continues to make the headlines ahead of the Olympic Games, the collegiate scene once again showed its potential to give rise to the future stars of the sport. The official FloWrestling Instagram account posted a small video clip on the social media platform, highlighting Sotelo’s tremendous resilience as he locked horns with one of the country’s finest. “As if 125 couldn’t get any more CRAZY“, reads the recent post and Sotelo’s determination is worthy of a round of applause.

Lock Haven’s Anthony Noto finished the last NCAA Championship in fourth place and was the clear favorite for his bout on Thursday. However, No. 29 Sotelo had other plans in his mind. The Harvard wrestler’s current season was 15-6 ahead of the matchup and he looked resolute to send tremors across the wrestling community as he took on his star opponent.

In the Instagram video, someone can be heard yelling “Don’t let him out“, as Sotelo locked Noto in a tight grip and he wasn’t in any hurry to loosen his fingers easily. This season, all of Sotelo’s losses have been hard-fought and Purdue’s Matt Ramos has been one of the lucky few to record a win over the Harvard junior. Meanwhile, upsets seem to be the new normal in the wrestling arena lately.

Major upsets have become the norm

The ongoing wrestling season has been tumultuous, to say the least. The very first week of the NCAA Division I wrestling matches saw high schooler Joey Blaze triumphing over Ramos and it was probably the earliest sign that this season would be one nervewreck after another.
