For the Iowa Cyclones, the last month went with a mixed feeling. In most of the January month, the Cyclones had the match results in their favor. But the music went out of tune last week. The no. 5-seeded Oklahoma State University ended the Iowa Cyclones’ dream run of straight victory in 7 matches. But with that, as the mixed feeling went, a piece of good news filled the situation for the Iowa State University’s wrestling team. The senior, David Carr, earned the coveted second position in the NCAA coach’s ranking on January 27. Now capitalizing on that, the wrestling program is trying to gain momentum in its next endeavor.

Friday is on the schedule to open the Iowa Cyclones’ February wrestling chapter. But on the same day, the program has a plan to commemorate its special spearheads.

Iowa Cyclones plans to recognize nine senior-class wrestlers

On February 2, the Iowa Cyclones will face West Virginia in the home center of Ames. The no. 4 seeded Cyclones looks to be a favorite against the no. 17-seeded Mountaineers. But for the fans, the host planned to introduce something bigger to uncap their February journey. On its designated website, the Iowa Cyclones requested the audiences to sit a little extra time as the program will recognize its nine senior wrestlers in front of them. On IG, Iowa State Wrestling’s handle conceded the same news with a caption, “Senior night Friday at 7 p.m.!”

With that, a list of frames paired with the caption. The frames captured Will Feldkamp, Carter Schmidt, Drew Woodley, Ben Monroe, Caeleb Fuessley, Andrew Huddleston, Damon Huston, Julien Broderson, and David Carr consecutively. Among them, David Carr needs no introduction as the 2023 NCAA runner-up has several achievements on his sleeve in Hawkeyes’ color. Moreover, in 2019, the wrestler had also claimed the Junior World champion title, ending the redshirt freshman season in Hawkeyes. His compatriots also hold some impressive wrestling records.

The wrestling superiority the senior hold

Will Feldkamp held the 184 weight category on his own merit. In 2022-23, the Michigan native had earned the third position in the NCAA Division 1 with emphatic 14 wins. In 2023, Will had earned the MAC championship as well. Eventually, for all those reasons, he found a regular calling in the starting squad under coach Kevin Dresser. On Friday as well, Will Feldkamp expects to appear against the Mountaineers’ Dennis Robin in 184-category. David Carr will also appear against Peyton Hall in 165-category.

Nevertheless, only Julien Broderson received a call-up on Friday night among the other seniors from the list. In 197-category, his match will be against Austin Cooley. Last year, in the Big 12 Championship, the 2019-20 joinee had claimed the 8th position. This year, he would want a better result.
