As the collegiate wrestling season rages on, No. 5 Iowa State Cyclones continue its impressive run. Taking on their Big 12 opponents with relative ease, the Cyclones are currently running high on a 10-2 overall record. While the Iowa State wrestlers were recently handed a rather upset defeat by No. 7 Oklahoma State, one of their key athletes still managed to progress on his winning streak this season.

The reigning Big 12 champ in the 165lb weight class, David Carr registered a rare win for the Cyclones on the night his team was thrashed 21-12 by Oklahoma State. While the Iowa State wrestlers didn’t have much to cheer about, a social media post still managed to highlight Carr’s brilliant display of skills on the mat.

Iowa State Wrestling’s official account on X (formerly Twitter) took a moment to pay its respect to the 2021 NCAA gold medalist Carr, keeping up with the haughty attitude the wrestler has been putting on this season. The communication studies major student has registered some impressive wins this season, and yesterday was no different. The social media post is captioned with a train emoji, inarguably signifying Carr’s barrage of relentless attacks that are making his opponents scurry to find their feet against Iowa State’s top dog.

The four-time Big 12 champion David (ISU’s No. 2) locked horns with Oklahoma State’s No. 3 Izzak Olejnik in the 165lb category as the Cyclones were trailing 13-3. The post’s accompanying video shows a brief moment from the clash of the Titans as Carr can be seen securing 3 points with a definitive takedown.

While his latest victory couldn’t be any sweeter, Olejnik isn’t the first behemoth to fall to the Iowa State student this season.

More high-ranking opponents subdued by Carr

When the Iowa State Cyclones met the Wisconsin Badgers in November last year during the early weeks of the season, Carr immediately highlighted his determination to start with a bang as he overpowered Dean Hamiti (No. 4) with a 2-0 decision win. The following week, Carr once again triumphed over a high-ranked opponent as he defeated Iowa Hawkeyes’ No. 5 Michael Caliendo, winning 16-4.

One take at a time

Growing up, I didn’t really have an interest in Olympic sports, but it was always something intriguing. As I found the means and the opportunity to explore its world, I found sports like volleyball, and track & field to be something that had tons to offer instead of just scoring through kills and sprinting toward the finish line. Whether it is Nebraska Huskers dominating the court or Noah Lyles maintaining his winning spree on the tracks, these two sports never fail to serve adrenaline rush to their spectators.
