Bo Bassett from Pennsylvania stands as a high school wrestling prodigy from Bishop McCort Catholic. Hailing from Pennsylvania. the 17-year-old recently came to the limelight with a couple of resounding victories. Apart from that, he is also a part of the prestigious Olympic Training Center. As the recruitment season approaches, it is obvious that there will be anticipation around the selection of the college for a budding wrestler like him. 

Recently, Bo Bassett ignited a social media frenzy with a cryptic Twitter update about the upcoming recruitment process. The post hinted at a significant revelation, yet seemed to be hiding the cherry on the top!

Bo’s unique college list steals the show

On 14th December Bo Basset took to his X with a post that reads, “Not the list most expected-  I am keeping my options wide open. I am very excited for the process and to see where I fit into programs when the time comes. There are so many great coaches and colleges. #DreamBig #SprintTheMile. #MachineGunMindset  God’s plan Proverbs 3:5-6.” While the caption might not be that interesting, the accompanying picture grabbed all the attention. 

The picture features Bo Bassett with the logos of almost all the wrestling programs added over it. It also mentions the words, “List of my top schools”. It seems that Basset wants to give a clear message that he has not yet decided and is giving every program equal weight when it comes to recruitment. The anticipation around Bassett’s recruitment is palpable, given his lineup of accolades at this tender age.

Bo’s wrestling odyssey and the path ahead

A #2 ranked recruit in the class of 2026, Bo Bassett attained a significant feat in 2021 when he earned positions in both the Freestyle and Greco-Roman 2021 Cadet World Team in the 45 kg category. Although Bassett faced an early exit in the Greko Roman, he secured a gold in freestyle.

In the first weekend of November this year, Bo Bassett won the Clarion Open Title in the 133-pound category. His latest win came in the Ironman Wrestling Tournament 2023. After winning the Clarion Open, he had given a glimpse with which he takes up wrestling.

He said, “Something that I’ve always done when I was wrestling growing up is I’ve always bumped up age groups, so if I was eight years old, I would normally bump to the ten year. If I was nine or ten years old, I would bump into junior high. And that was just something that my dad had always done for me. He’d always bump me up and we’re always trying to chase challenges.” It remains to be seen which challenge he chases next as he opts for his college.
