Making a name in the USA’s collegiate wrestling scene is a feat that few manage to achieve. With giants like Penn State’s NLWC and the Iowa Hawkeyes existing in the circuit, it’s a difficult task for any wrestler to rise above the rest. And yet, Michigan Wolverine’s junior Dylan Ragusin has accomplished a stellar milestone that will probably become one of the defining moments of his wrestling career.

After a sensational week, only days after coming out of being a redshirt, Ragusin seems to be on top of things, as per the latest NCAA announcement. The 133-pounder finished the 2022-23 season with a commendable 19-10 overall record, and his determination to develop his attacking moves seems to be sending out ripples across the country’s head honchos.

Michigan Wolverines junior steals the spotlight off the mat

In a recent post on X by the official Michigan Wolverines wrestling account, Ragusin’s latest achievement has been shed light on. “Winner, Winner“, reads the sonorous caption of the post, only to elaborate on the matter further. The post goes on to share the news of Dylan Ragusin being named the NCAA Wrestler of the Week in the 133lb weight class after a series of emphatic wins in recent weeks.

On January 12, Ragusin took down Maryland’s Braxton Brown after a brilliant 4-1 win in the Big Ten conference. And then, on January 22, when the Michigan Wolverines locked horns with the mighty NLWC, it was Ragusin who recorded the best moments for the night while the Penn State wrestlers decimated their opponents on the mat.

Taking down the formidable Aaron Nagao, Ragusin earned the Wolverines 6 points of their total 9 points. While the Nittany Lions walked away from the match 27-9, it was the 133lb matchup that registered the glory moment for the Michigan team on the otherwise disappointing night. And now, with Ragusin being bestowed with the coveted honor, it remains to be seen if the remainder of the season does justice to his current form. However, the fight for the top is getting more intense in every weight class as the season rages on.
