The preseason precursor to registering for the iconic wrestling tournament
Joe Sealey wrestled his former opponent and the number one seed of the ‘Who is No. 1’ competition, Will Henckel. Joe entered the high-stakes match as the number two seed, owing to a previous loss against Henckel. This time, however, the U20 World Champion carried the stronger edge as he didn’t allow Henckel to score points freely. The 160-pound wrestlers battled each other and put up an almost equal competition on 2nd September 2023. However, Sealey prevailed eventually because of his iron wall defense.

Sealey had previously lost to Henckel at the U20 qualifiers this year. The crafty offensive player sneaked in a last-moment takedown to kill the tied score and win the match by 9-7. However, he couldn’t penetrate Joe’s defense this time and took a 4-2 loss back home. Following his patient, but staunch win, Joe has now registered for the 2023 Bill Farrell International Open. The tournament is named after one of the biggest names in the wrestling world, who revolutionized the sport.

The legacy of the great Bill Farrell
The world hails Bill Farrell as a bona fide cigarette model whose brilliant physique and shining personality oozed Hollywood-level charisma. Farrell’s work as a model saw him visit every corner of the country via billboards and magazine pages. However, Farrell was also an accomplished wrestler who created a major impact in the wrestling world. He bagged the sixth position at the world championships and also coached the US’ most decorated Olympic squad. Despite all this, one of Farrell’s biggest contributions came in the form of new-age wrestling gear.

Farrell founded the modern-style wrestling shoes used by US wrestlers today and single-handedly kept Nike’s business from taking off. While Farrell’s coaching led Dan Gable to win the Olympic gold medal in 1972, his shoes revolutionized modern wrestling. Farrell served five tenures as the New York Athletic Club’s President. While the pioneer of modern wrestling shoes passed away in 2012, his hard work and legacy still live on.
