Home/Olympics

Champs-de-Mars Arena is ready to host an amalgam of qualifying wrestlers from around the world from August 5th to August 11th next year in 2024. As Paris gears up for the Olympics, athletes are closing in on the qualifiers. As the Senior World Championship 2023 concluded ceremoniously with a thud, it turned over the page to the final chapter, i.e. Paris Olympics 2024.

The World Championships in Belgrade were the first event for the federations and the last championship before the Summer Olympics. The senior weight classes have been reduced from 10 to 6. In Men’s freestyle, women’s freestyle and Greco-Roman, only six weight classes will be contested in total. This means wrestlers will have to be in a state of flux and move up and down their weight class to compete for the Olympic glory in Paris 2024. One spectacular qualifier from America bursted through the seams by rousing wins as well as spirits.

One such wrestler to rise through is Jordan Burroughs. Jordan Burroughs clinched his first gold medal in the London Summer Olympics 2012 wrestling at 74 kg. He moved on to 79 kg post-Olympics. Since 2021, he has not competed in the 74 kg division. But with the 79 kg not officially a weight class in the Olympics, he had to go down to his normal 74. @_wrestlersgrind shares a post on their X account. In the post, we can see the smiling Jordan Burroughs. The post was a congratulatory post for Jordan on making his staple weight of 74 kg.

This is half the challenge that Burroughs is pitted against. But an important challenge that he conquered. Since the top five contenders have already been given the ticket to Paris, they will be the final challenge to Burroughs. To shed weight and adapt your wrestling style to that weight is already challenging. But to do that just months before the Olympics is another challenge in itself, but that is something Burroughs is well equipped with, given his stellar wrestling track record.
