While a number of promising wrestlers made their mark, one wrestler stood out with his high-flying action and fans couldn’t stop reaching the moment.
In a recent social media post, the wrestling media website FloWrestling shared the most-watched wrestling clip of 2023. The Olympic team trials are inching closer and things are looking tense. However, amidst the anticipation, Christian Castillo’s superb decision-making skills take the top spot as being the most highlighted wrestling moment of this year.

Wrestling prodigy pulls off spectacular move
The 2022 U17 World Championship was held in Rome and Castillo’s quarterfinal match against Iran’s Arshia Haddadi was a nail-biter. The two Greco-Roman wrestlers put forth a display that grasped the attention of the fans. While Cristian was leading 6-0, Haddadi looked focused as he recorded 3 points on the scoreboard soon. However, with four seconds remaining on the clock, Castillo pulled off something so stunning that its memory seems unfaded even a year later.

In its latest post on X, FloWrestling has once again highlighted Castillo’s mesmerizing move that has racked in over 13 million views from wrestling connoisseurs. Dubbed the “Flying squirrel“, Castillo can be seen leaping over Haddadi as the latter goes for a low takedown. The unexpected nature of the move catches Haddadi off-guard and he couldn’t do anything but concede the final point to the rising Amercian star.
In 2021, the middle schooler made waves on the national scene during the Fargo U16. Castillo won the U17 Pan American champion in freestyle, but that wasn’t what made 2022 a memorable year for the young wrestler.

Road to Paris getting competitive
Castillo finished the 2022 U17 World Championships with a silver in the freestyle 48kg category. While Castillo is waiting for his senior debut, the 2024 Paris Olympics is currently the talk of the town. National wrestling legend David Taylor and his alma mater Penn State are set to dominate the upcoming team trials with 12 Nittany Lions members having qualified for the event.
