UNI Wrestling celebrated the record-breaking triumph against the Cowboys. They took to their official X handle to share the victorious update. The caption reads, “𝗠𝗔𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗛𝗜𝗦𝗧𝗢𝗥𝗬 𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗬𝗗𝗔𝗬! With this afternoon’s win over Wyoming, the Panthers have recorded 8️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ dual victories in the program’s 100-year history!!! #PantherTrain | #EverLoyal’’

The Panthers defeated the Cowboys with a 36–6 score and recorded eight victories in the Big 12 opener. However, UNI has scored the highest 40 points over Wyoming in a dual since 2008. Despite that, victory for Northern Iowa also marked the program’s 800 dual meet triumph overall. Showcasing strong performances from wrestlers such as Wyatt Voelker, Ryder Downey, and Jared Simma, resulted in a convincing team win.

The Panthers won eight of their ten games. In the 197-pound weight class, red-shirt freshman Wyatt Voelker (ranked No. 19), defeated No. 21 Joey Novak in a 5-3 decision in his first dual match of the year, which also marked a strong performance for the Panthers.

Before finally losing to No. 7 Big Ten challenger Nebraska by a score of 18–17, with the home team winning on criteria, UNI battled valiantly for every point in its matchup with the Cornhuskers and successfully secured a pair of top-ten upsets at 141 and 157 weight categories respectively.
