University of Northern Iowa Shocks With Plans for State-of-the-Art Training Facility Following Unexpected Eviction From Historic Wrestling Gym

The West Gym has been the staple of wrestling for almost a century. Now it lies vacant, waiting to be revived. The work on it hasn’t started yet, though the board reads that it is under construction. The engineers and consultants that are working on it have said that there is still time. The building will speak for itself. They will know when it is ready to be worked upon.
The UNI wrestling team led by Coach Schwab has found a temporary training home at USA Mat Club in Cedar Falls. While they await their return to their new training facility, excitement is brewing up in the wrestling community of the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) as they unveil the conceptual renderings of the new training facility.

The conceptualized rendering was unveiled at UNI Media Day on Thursday. The board of regents has been asked to permit to planning of such a facility. To evaluate designs that can be potentially scaled to the size. And to scope the plans that fundraising efforts would permit. The new building will meet all the present and future needs of wrestling like multiple mats, training room, rehabilitation space, office space for the staff, weight, and cardio space.

The wrestling facility for “next 100 year”
In October, UNI announced its plans for a new training facility. Known by the name of ‘Our Tomorrow fundraising campaign’, 246 million $ has been raised till now. The campaign is set to run till 2026. Athletics director David Harris said in an exclusive interview with themat.com, “The inclusion of this new wrestling practice facility in the Our Tomorrow campaign gives us the ability to put the full force of the university behind this project. It certainly shows that it is a priority,”.
