Brad Marchand clearly likes to be the star of the show. On the rink, he showed it via a marvelous playoff run with 10 goals, 20 points and a plus-17 rating in 23 games. Now, off of it, the veteran’s continuing the legacy—sometimes with viral videos capturing his crowd-surfing attempts with the Stanley Cup in hand in Miami, and sometimes through news reports showing his teammates’ attempt to get him home after a hard night of partying. Currently, though, the 37-year-old has taken his unique antics to social media.

As things stand, Marchand’s time as an unrestricted free agent is upon us, and so are conversations about his potential future with the Florida Panthers. While the Utah Mammoth, Los Angeles Kings, New Jersey Devils, and the Washington Capitals’ names have come up as potential suitors, the Toronto Maple Leafs have succeeded in taking the bigger piece of the pie.

As noted by Sportsnet’s Nick Kypreos during a conversation with Nick Alberga and Jay Rosehill on Friday’s edition of Leafs Morning Take, “He’s the first one to say ‘I was underpaid in Boston, and I’m going to go out there and make it up right now!’ There’s no team on the planet right now that can satisfy the lost income he had probably on the last 3-4 years of his Boston Bruins deal, than the Toronto Maple Leafs. I don’t know how he doesn’t end up as a Maple Leaf, let me put it to you that way.” And when that same conversation was taken to Instagram, the NHL star decided he’d respond to the rumor, too.

Commenting on tlndc‘s post, Marchand hilariously asked, “S— dawg …the people wanna see it???” While NHL stars do address trade rumors, it’s rare for them to reply directly to individual claims. However, the former Boston Bruins captain was probably so surprised that he couldn’t contain himself.

Interestingly, Marchand has become the Leafs’ kryptonite of sorts. This season, the 37-year-old’s overtime goal in Game 3 of Round 2 derailed the Leafs’ playoff bid this year again.

But, a Leafs future is only possible if Marchand is ready to…

Brad Marchand dropped a massive hint on his NHL future

While Brad Marchand will become an unrestricted free agent after July 1, the forward may sign an extension with the Cats before that. Notably, the Florida Panthers have $19 million in cap space and looking to sign not one but three players (Marchand, Sam Bennett, and Aaron Ekblad). But if you listen to what Marchand had to say, it’s almost like there’s no decision to be made at all.

“It feels like I’m home,” Brad Marchand told the media on the same day Kypreos made his prediction. What’s more? “Give me a contract,” joked the oldest player to score in the first three games of a Stanley Cup final. And that’s not all. He also mentioned, “These are the best few months I have ever had in my career. It’s an incredible group down here. I’ve loved every second of it, and hopefully it can continue.” The most convincing hint, though, came during the team’s celebration at the Elbo Room.

The FLA Cats Hockey Podcast host, David Rodriguez, posted the clip of what exactly happened. “‘I’m not f—– leaving,’ and someone says one more year, and he shakes his head and raises 4 fingers,” the podcast host wrote while sharing the clip. If that’s not a hint, then what is? It’s also clear that Marchand is happy.

“All those teams making bad decisions to get rid of guys and our team making incredible decisions to bring them all in,” the NHL veteran said while discussing his dig at several NHL teams, including his old team. While nothing’s official yet, it’s safe to assume that Brad Marchand is Florida’s to keep, and unless they fumble the ball, it’ll be hard for the Leafs to steal the two-time Stanley Cup winner.
