In the FIS Ski World Cup Championships in Andorra 2023 on Sunday, Shiffrin capped off a remarkable season by winning the giant slalom. She’s the current leader in the number of world cups won by a female alpine ski racer, which is her 88th. After finishing first on the podium on Sunday, she was taken aback when her boyfriend, Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, interviewed her.

Eurosport posted a video of the interview in which Aleksander Aamodt Kilde was spotted interviewing Mikaela Shiffrin after her 88th World Cup win, on Twitter. As soon as the footage was uploaded, the comments were flooded with excited admirers who had identified the power couple. Although many fans were left disappointed with the interview, some had hoped for a more romantic moment between the two.

The story of the power couple

In the world of alpine ski racing, Aleksander Aamodt Kilde and Mikaela Shiffrin are a power couple for a good reason. This duo has been one of the most popular in the skiing community since the year 2021. It was the 30-year-old skier who originally asked Shiffrin out in 2017, but she turned him down. The two, however, continued to remain good friends. When Mikaela’s father passed away in 2020, it was one of the lowest points of her life. Kilde reached out to her again after some time when she took up skiing, and the gesture touched both her and her loved ones deeply. The two eventually decided to take their relationship to the next level and become an official couple.

The latest event was won by the 28-year-old American over the Norwegian ski racer Thea Louise Stjernesund by a margin of 0.62 seconds. This was Shiffrin’s 14th Alpine Ski World Cup victory of the season and her 88th overall after she surpassed Ingemar Stenmark’s record of 84, which had stood for 34 years. She was blown away when her boyfriend, Kilde, accompanied her to the interview after the game. During the whole conversation, the pair could only laugh, and Shiffrin seemed speechless for a brief second.

It looks like the fans of Mikaela Shiffrin weren’t happy

Many were disappointed that her partner didn’t do anything romantic to commemorate her 88th World Cup victory. Several supporters saw it as a pure moment, despite the reversed reactions of others.

One fan had a full road map of the interview, but it didn’t end as they thought, as they say, “I def thought he was going to purpose. I feel like he decided at the last second not to do it in front of that crowd. It was 100% leading that way with the questions he was asking like ‘what are your plans for the future?’ Plus, it looked like he had a speech written on his phone.”

A fan did expect Kilde to propose to her, as they left a comment that reads, “And I was waiting for the final question:’Will you marry me?'”

It looks like this fan was also expecting something from Kilde, saying, “Well @AleksanderKilde I was expecting a proposal , it was such a good opportunity.”

However, apart from a lot of fans, this fan liked the humor of the interview, as they said, “Well that’s one way to get yourself invited to your girlfriend’s beach vacation. Those two are … #Hilarious!”
