Hong Kong legend Moreira is, without a hint of a doubt, one of the world’s foremost jockeys. Adding to his tally of Group 1 wins, the record-breaking equestrian jockey recently gathered another spectacular G1 victory this year at his home domains.
While Moreira has won numerous Group 1s globally, this one occupies a special place for the star hoop. Teaming up with Monanfan, the triumph comes on the tracks of Brazil as his dominant streak continues.

Landing the second G1 for the 2024 season
The official Instagram handle, World Horse Racing, took to announce the latest triumph of jockey Joao Moreira. The caption to the post reads, “In every language, he is “Magic Man” 🪄 Joao Moreira lands his second G1 for 2024, this time in his home country of Brazil aboard MONANFAN in the Grande Premio Estado do Rio de Janeiro 🇧🇷.” The filming of the event took place at Jockey Club Brasileiro. While Moreira has traveled worldwide, he has revealed that his biggest joys come from winning the races in his home country.

This Brazilian-born, Hong Kong-based jockey has an air of impossible charm wherever he races. Moreira won his first G1 stakes in Uruguay aboard Pacholli this year at the esteemed Gran Premio Ciudad de Montevideo beginning of January. Clocking the timing 2’02″84 at the Maronas Racecourse, his speed was unfathomable as he clinched victory.

Moreira’s phenomenal equestrian stats
Moreira believes in the mantra, “Life is all about competition.” He earned the title “Magic Moreira” in Singapore from Craig Evans, a presenter at a sports event there. He started his career as an apprentice in Brazil’s 2005/06 season.

Moreira is also the world record holder as he has secured victories at eight races in a nine-event card. One of his most stellar partnerships is with Able Friend, another champion Hong Kong sprinter. In November 2022, Moreira relinquished his license to go horse-riding in Hong Kong, ending his stellar record where he had achieved four premierships and notable victories.

However, his lineup for the second decade is still going strong, as he claimed two G1s this year.
