Timo Meier, the star forward for the New Jersey Devils, has recently signed an eight-year contract to the tune of $70.4 million. This hire comes in the backdrop of the Devils losing the playoffs against the Carolina Hurricanes. Meier joined the team back in February in an epic trade between the New Jersey Devils and the San Jose Sharks. San Jose let go of Meier in the final year of his four-year contract. However, they got to retain 50 percent of his total cap hit and also received a package deal with four other players and a choice of three drafts.

The Devils’ move was deemed a risky bet by many sports experts. Meier was on track to becoming a free agent on July 1. The Devils felt like this was their chance to acquire Meier with a long-term contract, and with some effort, they were finally successful in making that happen.

New Jersey Devils Secure Timo Meier with Lucrative Contract

Timo Meier, a 26-year-old right winger, played for the San Jose Sharks for the majority of his career since being drafted in 2015. Within that team, he had managed to reach the desirable 30-goal mark thrice. His seamless adjustment to the Devils left everyone stunned. Although it took time, the ace ice hockey player was able to score nine goals and also earn 14 points by playing in 21 games. He was also able to score two more goals in the 11 postseason events. Unfortunately, that did not save the Devils from elimination. The Carolina Hurricanes ousted them in the second series of the Eastern Conference.

At the moment, the Devils are putting all their trust in Meier. New Jersey Devils were able to earn 112 points in the last season, which is, to date, their best score. The team was also successful in qualifying for the playoffs for the second time in a decade. The caption read on Instagram, “IT’S T(IMO)-SHIRT TIME 😈.”
