This surfing season, Filipe Toledo has been one of the most talked-about men. The 2023 WSL season yellow jersey is currently held by the reigning world champion. The Brazilian surfer has made it to both the Rip Curl Finals in September and the 2024 Olympics in Teahupo’o, despite the ongoing controversy in the surfing community. His reminder to his fans
Even when he’s down and out, Filipe Toledo always finds a way to share his joy with his adoring public. He’s quite open with his devoted fan base. “So stoked with my journey so far!” he said at the beginning of the message. The surfer now has the yellow jersey and is well ahead of any challenger in the points standings after winning three events in the 2023 WSL season. To top it all off, he says that he is “working with the best team” that has supported him throughout the season. As he elaborates, “I have achieved victories and been through challenges that became lessons.”

He says, “I feel ready and excited to go for another title and pumped with my qualification for the 2k24 Olympics.” The current world champion is defending his title while pursuing a new one. He extends his gratitude to everybody who has given him “support” through his career’s low points. A few weeks remain before the Rip Curl Finals, and the surfer is eager to get some waves in at the Outknown Tahiti Pro Trails.

Defying all odds in surfing
While competing in the Vivo Rio Pro, Filipe Toledo was slightly hurt in a surf duel. Despite having to withdraw from his home event early due to a cartilage ailment, the surfer didn’t skip the WSL competition in South Africa. The surfer sought immediate medical care days before the Corona Open J-Bay and was actively training while recovering.

The surfer entered the WSL competition with tape on his knees, yet he still managed to do well. Toledo easily advanced through the bracket rounds and ultimately squared up against Australian surfer Ethan Ewing in the final. Despite his injuries, Toledo was already a dominating force in the water, and he capped off his victory at the Corona Open J-Bay by posting a 9.93 in the last wave. As he trains for his upcoming championship, the Brazilian surfer moves up in the standings.
