The sport of surfing comes with its own set of risks and rewards. Surfers have always had to accept that they are completely at the whim of the ocean and its ever-changing waves, as well as the hidden hazards that lie underneath them. Wipeouts, for instance, though are entertaining to watch, but they may be fatal for the surfer. Recently, a video of a surfer being hurt by their own surfboard, after a wipeout, went viral online for identical reasons.

The reaction of the surfing community

For surfers, Flagler Beach in Florida is renowned as having the third-best waves in the state. Surfers come from all over the world to enjoy the warm water and exciting waves of this region. The location often plays host to surfing events, but it is also a haven for amateurs looking to have a good time. It’s fairly funny to see someone being wiped out and whacked by their own surfboard, so it’s no surprise that the video went viral as soon as the Reddit user published it.

A new surfer has entered the comment section, and they like what the user posted, saying, “As a bad, new surfer, I appreciate you posting this.”

One user looked like they appreciate the way this surfer is learning things, saying, “This is how we learn. And it ain’t just noobs – if ya don’t believe me ya didn’t see Peniche yesterday ‘day’ in Portugal. Happens to all of us – no matter what the skill. Surfing is never *mastered*, it’s an endless pursuit of passion and soul, but never one to be conquered. It constantly conquers us – humbles us – and I fkn love that about it.”
