“Unfair Reputation as Man-Eaters”: Nerve-Wrecking Video Shows Shark Lurking Beside Swimmers and Fans Aren’t Having It

According to some reports, America loses 72 people a year to shark attacks. These are mostly surfers or swimmers. Of course, here we are talking about open-water swimming or ocean swimming. This genre of sport is also the second-highest on the list of sports that are likely to have a shark attack victim.
The internet has some mixed responses after a video went viral on Facebook where a tiger shark could be seen swimming beside swimmers in Perth Beach, Australia. It looks like the people are opposing other people for ruining the living environment of these aquatic beasts. The comment section of the post is proof of the heat that has taken over the internet.

Mixed reactions from fans regarding the shark swimming in its natural environment
The comment section fills up with heat as fans argue about the issues that these predators are facing. Most of the comments are serious, while the rest of them are hilarious. One comment reads, “Tiger sharks have earned a quite unfair reputation as ‘man-eaters’ due to some cases of opportunistic predation on weak and injured shipwreck victims. Generally though, as seen in this footage, unlike say turtles, we’re not seen as regular prey for them and the majority of Australians actually survive an encounter even when these sharks do bite.”

Another person has left a comment that is basically an awareness, “They giving wrong warning…if you so close to sharks STAND STILL. If you try to swim away they WILL attack. They see you as bait…”
One user explained the nature of these sharks that lurk in the shadows, “So this looks like a tiger shark for sure and they’re not known to outright attack humans unless provoked. Their hunting habits scare us but as humans, we are still pretty unknown in their territories, so they don’t tend to go out of their way for a weird looking food lol. So yes, it’s nervewracking but if you don’t carry on, they won’t.”
Another viewer suggests the media get better at reporting these situations – “People know this actually happened all the time right? It’s not happening more. Now because we have drones…..we can just see them more now. This probably happened all the time and we just never even knew. This shark was not ‘lurking’ it was swimming…in the ocean……where it lives……we need to change the way we report these things. Do better!”
Here are a few other hilarious comments left by the fans.
“’Lurking in the shallows’ in the same way that I lurk in my living room. It’s their home. People really need to stop vilifying sharks.”
“Shark doing shark thing’s. Should be more concerned about someone recording people at a packed beach.”
“Has anyone wondered if the shark got freaked out seeing the humans in its home? How does the shark feel when he gets home and finds he had such close contact with a predator? No one ever thinks of the sharks do they.”
